sweet charity clip

Bob Fosse really captured the mod style and feel in this scene of sweet charity. I love how everyone's small movements make a grand picture all together. The use of props is so creative and seamless within the choreography. Overall I just think this is a cool funky dance.
Having been in the musical theater department for three years, I think I can safely say that most of the majors here either consider themselves an actor or singer first- not a dancer. However, in this competitive world of arts today, one must be a triple threat. That is not to say that we must all be prima ballerinas, but having dance training and experience under our belt will get us that much closer to our goals. In an audition, we need to be able to pick up combinations with enthusiasm and a bit of finesse. Furthermore, knowing dance terminology and basic steps will make it that much easier when those steps are used in the audition process. Continuing to dance outside of class is essential in growing and maintaining our abilities.

DANCE

The reason i took dance was because i love music. when it comes to what i listen to I am very open. And for me dancing is away to express how you feel to let out those emotions inside of you and to be free. I took hip- hop and that led me be creative when it comes to creating routines or a choreagraphy. When iwas little I always wanted to be a dancer but my mom never thought of it as a career. Unfortunately dancers aren't taken that serious yet we form a huge part in the music industry, we make the music videos look more cool and exciting.

Katelyn Breault

I took dance at Pace because I have always loved dance. I have only been dancing for three years now but it is definately something that I love doing. I first joined just for fun, but then it turned into something much more serious for me last year cause it was my year for huge improvment. I ended up dancing with the top girls and going to national competitions and winning awards. This is why I have chosen to continue dance here at Pace. It is a great opportunity to be able to dance in college and recieve credit so why not take full advantage of it. Dance is what I am known for back home so might as well keep up the name for them. :)

When I was younger I had taken ballet and gymnastics and loved it. I never thought I would stop dancing because my dream was to become a ballerina, but that changed. I ended up moving and stopped going to ballet. I gave up trying to become a ballerina, but when I heard that I can take ballet classes at pace I was really excited. The idea of taking a class in something that I used to love, made me feel like there was no way that I could have forgotten ballet. To be honest, a few weeks into the class and I thought I was the worst student everrrr!!! It had been so long since I took a class and the level of difficulty (with the lack of skill) did not work out in my favor. To be honest, the five positions were difficult at first. Now that the class is coming to an end I see that I have so much knowledge in ballet, better alignment and I catch myself thinking about how I am standing. These are all things that have honestly made my life better. I have very few back pains now and I know how to properly stretch. I walked into the first class hoping to regain a love for ballet and I honestly did. But, I also gained skill in proper posture and the importance of exercise in everyday life.

By an Angel - Katia Garza & Sergiu Brindusa

This piece danced by Katia Garza & Sergiu Brindusa is absolutely beautiful and amazing! They danced to "By an Angel" by Yoad Nevo and Gil Brown. The choreographer Israel Rodriguez, did an amazing job. I love this piece because it is more of a pop piece which is different from most classical ballet perfomances. Katia is elegant in each and every one of her performances, but this one is infused with so much passion. She is absolutely flawless and makes every move and accent seem so easy. There are moments in this piece where both dancers seem to be one and are truly connected. The transitions from one step to another are seamless. Even when she is in the air she is dancing from head to toe! It is beautiful and stunning to watch. I saw this video over and over again!

Ballet....so many reasons why!

I never really considered taking ballet until I became more serious about dancing salsa. I learned that the best dancers in salsa were the ones that took other forms of dance, especially those that studied ballet. I figured taking ballet as an elective was a win-win situation. It would be a great way to improve dancing salsa on 2, have fun, and get a boost of energy in the morning before having to work or hit the books. Ballet dancers are so elegant and in control of their bodies which made me want to learn or at least understand the technique so that I could try to apply it to other forms of dance. It was also a great way to do something different in my last year at Pace. Finally take a class that I would really enjoy! I love it!! I am hooked on ballet!
