Having been in the musical theater department for three years, I think I can safely say that most of the majors here either consider themselves an actor or singer first- not a dancer. However, in this competitive world of arts today, one must be a triple threat. That is not to say that we must all be prima ballerinas, but having dance training and experience under our belt will get us that much closer to our goals. In an audition, we need to be able to pick up combinations with enthusiasm and a bit of finesse. Furthermore, knowing dance terminology and basic steps will make it that much easier when those steps are used in the audition process. Continuing to dance outside of class is essential in growing and maintaining our abilities.

I agree with you 100%. Having dance experience will get you so much farther in an audition than not having it at all.
